A little look at budget management – now trust me this will improve your game providing you stick to rules…
The good thing about poker these days is there is always a game to be found online regardless of your budget, but not every player stays in their budget range. The problem for a lot of players is that a large majority of people still look at poker as 30 minutes of gambling – but these sorts of player will tend to deposit a certain amount and put the whole lot at risk in a mater of minutes.
So what should we do?
Well, different people deal with this principle in different ways – personally, if I know I have a certain budget to play with, then I like to stick to a few (in my opinion) helpful rules. Say I have a certain amount as my bankroll for one day, in my first game I will look to put between 20 to 25% at risk. So lets say I’m risking 25% in my first sit down, and assume things went badly, so I’ve lost the 25% of my initial budget.
Ok, so I’m down but I’m not out, at least I’m managing my funds, and giving myself the best chance to get back in the game. So now we must go out to play again with 75% of your initial budget remaining – so in order to ensure I last a few more games, I’m going to set myself 25% of what I have left to play with, so even if the worst were still to happen in this game, I’ll still have over half (56.25%) of what I started with, rather than nothing.
However, obviously saying that you’ll lose (at worst) 43.75% of your budget in two games is a worst case scenario – we’re hoping that, with our help, you aren’t losing at all and you’re on your way to becoming a poker shark!
So on this second stage of play, let’s say I’ve had a good win and increased my bankroll – now, rather than go and risk all my winnings, I’ll apply the same rules to what I can risk in the next game. This will mean that regardless of the result in the next game, you’ve still got a good portion of your winnings.
Trust me when I say that small profits are much better than big losses.
Keep this up and you will be making a tidy profit in no time, and even if you fail to win – and with the help on this site in our video lessons section or the information in our blogs, you shouldn’t – then the amount of game-play you will get for your cash, and level of experience will no doubt increase.
How long could, say £100 last on a 25% scale? Let’s work it out…see the handy table on our site. Click here!
So, sticking to this rule we’d get 11 games out of our money – however, this is a real worst case scenario, but does show that for this money you’re getting a lot of gaming experience. Obviously, if you’ve been working through the advice we’ve been giving out, for free, in our videos, blogs or help-sheets, then you really shouldn’t be losing 11 games in a row anyway.
If you have any queries or anything you’d like to ask us – please get in touch through our homepage at www.bethepokershark.com. Alternatively, if you feel you need a little more help with your poker, please remember that all our videos, blogs and help-sheets are available on the site too at no cost.

There are many different poker games and each one has its own rules. However, there are general rules of poker that apply to any game, whether you play in Germany or online. The main rule is that when you want to play in a round of poker you must pay the appropriate buy in for that particular game, which is usually ten times the maximum bet being played in the game. If there is a specific amount of money you have to pay to buy into a game, this will be made known before the game starts. In all German poker competitions, you have to buy in if you want to play and have a chance to win.
On occasion there are misdeals in poker. There are specific rules that apply, such as a misdeal can only be called before two German poker players have acted on the cards they hold. Some of the instances in which a misdeal may be called are:
– the first or second card dealt is exposed making it visible to other players.
– the dealer has dealt extra cards
– a player receives the wrong number of cards
– a card has been dealt out of sequence
A player that does not want to make a bet on his/her hand can throw it away. In this case the hand is dead and cannot be retrieved.
The smallest chip used in a poker game is the smallest bet a German player can use. Check raise is allowed in most poker games. The only exceptions are in certain games of lowball. There is no limit on how much German poker players can raise in both no-limit and pot limit games.
Anyone that watches poker on TV will see that there are certain rules associated with the players actions at the table. These actions are also part of the rules of the game. For example, when a player raps his/her hand on the table, this means they are going to pass. There are also rules of etiquette associated with playing poker, such as no collusion between players that could be construed as cheating.
Both Texas Hold and Omaha poker have similar playing rules. The players receive their cards and decide to place a bet based on what they hold in their hands. The dealer then discards the top card from the deck and turns over three cards. After this players make another bet on the combination of their cards and the community cards. The dealer will turn over two more cards one at a time, called the turn and the river. Betting resumes after each card. After the river card is played then a winner is determined by which player has the best hand.
In Texas Hold, each player receives two cards, while in Omaha, each one receives four cards. these cards are used to make winning hands with the cards the dealer turns over, but in Omaha, a player can make a high hand and a low hand. The same card in the player hand, though, cannot be used to form both of these hands.
Then there are rules for other poker games, such as seven card stud, low ball, no-limit and pot limit games.

In a typical tournament, you will notice far looser play in the early levels of the game than in most other stages. Many pots in the early stages will frequently be contested by 3, 4, 5 or more players. It is much harder to get reads on multiple opponents than it is to get a read on a single opponent. Also, more players in a hand increases your likelihood of coming up on the short end of the stick at the showdown. For these reasons, multi-way pots should typically be avoided. The low blinds in the early stages tempt many players to enter into pots with mediocre holdings in the hopes of nailing a miracle flop and taking down a “big” pot. But if you put it in perspective, “big” pots in the early stages of a tournament aren’t all that big. If you’ve ever spent a few hours sitting in an online tournament, you surely understand that once those blinds hit heights like 6,000/12,000, that “big” 3,000 pot seems pretty paltry. It’s now only a fraction of a blind. Still, this isn’t enough to keep boatloads of players from risking their tournament lives for the measly $20, $30, or $60 blinds. The lower the buy-in for the tournament, the more prominent the loose play in the early stages will be. In a freeroll tournament, wildly loose play will dominate the early stages of the game. The opening stages are the best times to stay tight and avoid the big multi-way pots without a monster of a hand.
By the middle stages, most of the wildest players have either busted out or accumulated enough chips to feel satisfied in switching to a more conservative game…read the full article at cardsinner.com.
Poker tables are essential pieces of furniture in a casino or in the home of a die-hard poker fan. They can be of varying shapes like: circular, rectangular, hexagonal, and octagonal. Most poker tables come in fine hardwoods such as red oak and cherry and some are lacquered, hand-rubbed, and waxed for a more artistic and elegant look.
Poker has become hugely popular in recent years whether it is celebrity poker on TV, games at home, or online poker. Having a real poker table at home is a costly luxury. But you can always make one yourself for a stylish add-on to your living room and enjoy the popular game indoors. It is definitely a cheaper alternative to the expensive ready made poker tables.
When you consider building your own poker table, look for some great tips and ideas on the Internet. To begin with, you can make a rough pencil sketch of the shape of the table. Depending on where you would want to place the table, you can come to a decision regarding the dimensions. The shape and size of the table should give you a air estimation of the amount of wood needed and it is always advisable to buy some extra to make room for mistakes. Using a rectangular 6-foot lightweight folding table as your base is a great idea.
Hardwood or veneered construction plywood are the best for the tabletop and you would need to first make the framing. Once the frame pieces are properly screwed around the table, it is time to seal the tabletop and let it cure overnight. Sanding your table down and applying wood treatment are the final steps to having the perfect poker table you had imagined.
With a little research and creativity, you can build a poker table that fits your own style and budget. It is not always necessary to shell out big bucks when you can make a professional-quality poker table yourself. Most poker tables are especially made for eight players. Poker tables can be with legs in place or table tops that can be fitted to any classical table. The key is to choose the right color and wood stains for a poker table that blends the best with the game room’s décor.
The online poker sites would have you believe that their software is fair for all players. In fact many of the online poker sites are required to submit their software for rigorous testing to prove it is a fair game for all players. However, is the software really fair? On the other hand, is there something going on in the background that many people never realize?
Many victims of bad beats will scream “this site is rigged” while others will counter that the suck outs and bad beats are all a part of poker and it happens even in live games. While that is true, it still begs the question as to whether there is more to the online poker game than meets the eye.
In a recent study conducted by a popular poker forum, the question, “Are Online Poker Sites Rigged?” was posed and the results were nearly split with 42% saying yes and 58% saying no. However, opinions by players really have no bearing on the truth as to whether there is something amiss in the software.
Attention to the fact that there are flaws in the software used to produce ‘random’ cards has always been the focal point of the argument. The fact that a computer program is determining the outcome using a RNG (Random Number Generator), does not imply the game is fair or random.
A RNG is merely a program that will “shuffle” the 52-card deck and appear to deal that deck in what may seem to be a random manner. However, because the RNG has limitations on capacity and ability to be truly random, additional software algorithms and processes are added into the online poker software to further insinuate a fair game.
It is these additional programs and algorithms that is the true culprit in creating an environment where bad beats and suck outs will occur more frequently. A popular poker site once claimed that the reason one may see so many bad beats online is that more hands are dealt. This limp explanation is neither credible nor even close to reality
A typical live tourney will see an average of 38 hands dealt per hour, while an online tourney will have 52 hands dealt per hour. That in itself, is not a significant difference to warrant the overwhelming amount of bad beats that occur. The fact is, you could sit through thousands of live hands and not see the amount of remarkable bad beats that will occur online.
There is, of course, an explanation for this anomaly, and that explanation lies in the flaws of the computer generated program that determines the outcome of hands in online poker. In reality, the poker sites are rigged, since they do not use a true random determination, rather a programmed determination and additional subroutines and algorithms to effect the final outcome.
The ‘rigged mentality’ is usually geared toward bad beats and suck outs; however, the poker sites are rigged toward the winning hands (not toward bad beats) through the use of special algorithms used to determine the outcome. Furthermore, anyone who knows how the software works could easily manipulate it to their own advantage, thereby winning in more tournaments and cashing more often.
So, the next time you play online poker, do it with the knowledge that the cards being dealt are not truly random, and that there is a software program that actually is the determining factor if you win the hand or not.
There are a couple of really good books out there dedicated to poker tells. Many other poker books at least take the time to breeze over the subject in a certain section or chapter for tells.
Of course, spotting tells in a live game is always easier than trying to read someone you can’t see (ie: online poker), but are there ways to read your online opponents?
While playing live you can spot many of those live tells pretty easily. The shaky hands, the clenched jaw, the guy who practically leaps out of his seat; these are all pretty easy to spot. If you look deeper you may find more subtle differences in their body language and actions depending on their hand strength.
When playing online you are left without those really obvious tells, so in order to read your opponents, you must always be vigilant for the finer details.
For example: Let’s say an unknown player limps in UTG. You call from the button. Unsure of what this player may be holding, you decide it best to see the flop with your KJ and see how he plays it. The flop comes down K84 with 2 hearts. Your opponent quickly checks, and you bet about 2/3 the pot. He calls instantly.
The quick check followed by the insta-call is almost always a sign of someone on a draw. With that board, he’s not likely on a straight draw. What’s more likely is that he needs another heart to complete his flush. If the heart doesn’t fall on the turn, make him pay, at least 1/2 the pot to take his pot odds, and see what happens from there. If another heart does fall, it would be wise to check if he checks, as he’s likely looking for a check raise or at least hoping for a big bet on your part.
Another online tell is betting amounts, which when combined with your note keeping system, should play a major role in your online play. Many novice players tend to bet much heavier when they are bluffing and much smaller when they actually have a real hand (after all, they want you to call and pay them, they don’t want to scare you away). Other players will bet the pot on their draws and less than the pot when they have a real hand, much for the same reasoning. Other players will do the opposite, betting heavy with the real hands for maximum chip extraction while betting small on draws to give themselves the pot odds they need when players who aren’t aggressive enough just call instead of doing what a winning poker player does: RAISE!
A check-raise is another online tell of a very strong hand.
Another indicator of a players hand strength often lies in the amount of time they take to act. Quick checkers can usually be easily bet off of a pot. Often you’ll see a player flop trips and then think for a fairly long time before checking. Then you’ll see them bet out the turn. The reason for the long pause before the check on the flop was that this player was taking the time to consider the board texture, whether or not to bet, his own kicker, keeping other players in the hand, trapping, bet amounts, etc. If this player had missed the flop, he would have noticed that quickly and made a quick and easy check.
Now remember when practicing exploiting tells, that these tips are guidelines. Some players are tricky and will give off “false tells.” Other will consider what they want to see on the flop and how they will react to it ahead of time, giving them different reaction times. Other players are very good about mixing up their bet amounts online so as to avoiding being read.
What you want to look for are patterns of certain types of behaviors in players. The list of tells above are just a few of the most common ones, but if you keep a close eye on every play, even after you’ve folded, you begin to pick up on the little nuances of players and begin even spotting many tells that you hadn’t heard of or noticed before.
When you spot a player who excersizes these types of habits at the tables, exploit them for what they’re worth. Save your chips when your beat, and take theirs when you know that you can.
A deep stack tournament is a poker tournament in which each player starts off with a stack of chips that is relatively high compared to the amount of the blind or the size of the pot. Such tournaments originally started in online poker, but are now held in land based poker tournaments as well. The fact that each player starts out with a large number of chips means that there are usually a lot of forced bets and that the game is not as fast paced as a regular poker game. It takes longer to play the game because the players can stay in longer and it will take longer to win any amount of money.
Each player starts of f with a stack of 5000 chips instead of the standard 1500. In a typical poker tournaments, the amount of the blinds rise every fifteen minutes, but in this type of tournament they rise every half hour. Many players make the mistake of playing too many hands because they have more chips at their disposal, which can in turn lead to bigger losses, especially at the beginning of a game. It is important not to change the strategy you use for the pre flop when playing this type of tournament just because you have more chips to work with.
Players look really impressive with a large stack of chips in front of them. One helpful bit of advice for those playing a tournament for the first time is to not pay attention to the size of the other players?stacks. Concentrate on your own stack and the cards you are dealt to make your decisions about whether you play the hand, raise the bet or fold. You don have to try to double up to stay in the game.
Having lots of patience is the key to being successful in a tournament where you have more than triple the usual number of chips. You should realize from the beginning that this is going to be a long game and if you want to be still at the table at the end, you need to be patient and carefully place your bids. You can expect to see double the number of hands than in a regular tournament, so just bide your time and fold whenever you feel you should.
Going all in early in the tournament is not a good strategy to use. The blinds are going to increase, although at a slower pace. Eventually the size of the pot will be quite large. In order to have a chance at winning a sizeable pot, you do need to be still seated at the table by the time the 5th or 6th round comes around. This is when you will see increases in the blinds that mean winning a pot will give you a larger number of chips.
Although you will spend more time at the table, if you fold when you have to, this will give you more opportunity to study your opponents and get to learn how to read them better. Then when you reach the stage where there is a large amount of money in the pot, you will be in a better position to know which ones have good cards and which ones are bluffing.
Whether you want game simulations or poker coaching, poker training software can help your skill level increase exponentially. Why? Because your game will improve by both practice and patience; and by using this type of software you will learn both.
Before you get the software, decide whether you want a game simulation or a coaching program. The difference between the two is obvious. As the name implies, poker training software that specializes in coaching does just that. Many times a professional poker player will evaluate your performance and give you tips and pointers on improving your game.
A game simulation allows you to practice. Using real-time games where you can hone your skills, from beginner to pro, this software helps you build techniques and strategies that will help you when you’re playing the real thing.
There are some real benefits to using this type of software. The first is obvious. To play good poker you need to know your game. Knowing both your strengths and weaknesses will help you understand yourself as a poker player. What do you do, personally, when you are dealt a bad hand? Do you get panicky – if only momentarily? Are there tells you don’t see with your own eyes?
With poker training software you get all the practice you need to become the best player you can be. The other benefit is learning the patience you will need to enhance your skills. Patience is a skill you learn once you get the software. How? By sitting down and working with a coach, over time you’ll see your game improve.
When using a simulator, with the time you spend playing and practicing, you’ll see yourself strengthen as a player much like a boxer becomes a better fighter over time by taking the hits and making knockouts.
Poker strategy software is essentially the same as poker tracker software. The basis of this type of program is to assist beginners with building their game. There is little need for a pro to build the strategies they’ve already learned through years of complex play. But for the beginner, this tool is invaluable.
The benefit of poker strategy software is the extensive data it provides for players wanting to see their own statistics, as well as the stats of the table, and other players. The difference between the two types of software is the exhaustive data compilation of the strategy tools.
This software can be downloaded online for a fee; but sometimes they can be found at no cost. Just make sure the site is reputable. Oftentimes, if a site offers free downloads there is a chance a Trojan horse or virus is attached, so make sure you know exactly what you’re downloading, and be certain it’s safe.
